Group Telescope Application
Schools, planetariums, and a limited number of research groups can apply to use our scopes. Please review the following criteria to make sure your organization qualifies to use our scopes. Please note that we are currently at capacity, and your application will be placed on a waiting list.
Please fill out the information below and click the Send button to send it to us. Your group must meet the following criteria to apply:
- An educational institution must be a certified school or a planetarium providing extensive services to students. Applications from certified educational institutions receive first priority.
- An educational institution must provide at least one knowledgeable astronomy instructor, or an amateur/professional astronomy person, who will be responsible for helping students learn how to use the Foundation’s software and equipment.
- Be a formally constituted group that performs research, and will use at least 90% of the time on our telescopes for non-survey research. The results must be published in some way or otherwise provided to the astronomical community (amateur or professional) at large. Credit to Tzec Maun Observatory is required in your publication. Research groups must have a public web site, be well-established, be significantly involved in astronomy education in some way, and have a primary focus and history related to astronomy.
- We are not currently accepting applications for survey (discovery via area imaging) applications. We do not have sufficient telescope capacity to support this type of research. We can support some limited follow-up activities, however, such as supernova and NEO follow-ups, photometry, and similar activities.
